FIELD STUDY 2 - DAY 14: Fighting for my way; Hooray!
A fight to personal issues and turbulence of this journey. This day, November 24, 2022, Thursday, I have experienced the things I need to be exposed to. The process of how assessments are completed and ready to be given to the takers—my students—from the discussion and how they managed to their minds and how it was applied were especially raw in my hands and eyes. All the necessary things were there to be tried by me, who is assisting my cooperating teacher in the process of teaching and learning. Actually, I am not that early this day, but thankfully I am not late because I have made it first between me and my CT in her classroom. It was another fruitful experience and stay with me as I recount all of my activities on this day.
In the first period, my CT underwent the checking of their outputs from yesterday’s activity through an oral presentation, emphasizing the reading process. Since it was a paired activity, all of them have made it easy, and all of them have recited their answers. In an educational context, wrongs and errors are normal; these are motivators for teachers to have something new in their process and actualize something remarkable and beneficial. On the side of ma'am Jenny's class in her advisory section, the Grade 9 Eris, I could say that 79 percent of them achieved the goal and touched on the important points of the lesson or activity. Then, as a result of this experience, I realized that giving them an abrupt task like this, because my CT did not inform them to have a recitation or read their answers, is actually a good scenario to really highlight the authenticity of their knowledge and experience. Thus, I have realized too that it should not be "surprised" all the time but rather done with perfect timing.
The first period ended with ma'am Jenny providing feedback on each task. In the second period, the Grade 7-Everlasting was just tasked to answer the following activity, which is in line with their topic about listening. This is a paper test, and what I did was recite all the items, which is actually part of their learning objective, which is to have listening skills, especially since in every class, teachers’ discussions need students’ listening skills to digest all the necessary information they need to. After their activity, we checked their papers, and remarkably, most of them got high scores, and I have realized that the skills of teaching implementation of my cooperating teacher are effective, and just from my Field Study 1 observation, I could say that she is an efficient and really hands-on teacher in a class. The way she delivers the teaching strategies is amazing. Hence, I am thankful and inspired to be like her—she knows how to deal with diverse learners and has strategized everything. Indeed, she maintained her excellence, and the scores I have seen are evidence of her good teaching.
After the second period, recess time was scheduled and as i was going to the classroom of my CT, then i have realized i need to prepare the assessment of Grade 8-Beryl which is all about infographic. Since, I have prepared the soft copy of it, I just send it to ma’am Jenny to use it and print it for her student in English 8. it was already 9:45 ad it was not yet done so, ma’am informed her class that I will come late 15 minutes - exactly 10:00 am in their classroom. Then, as I have arrived at the classroom, students were ready of their papers to use in their quiz. I greeted them and they responded happily. So, I did the distribution of test questioner, and they started their quiz, quietly. After 25 minutes, they are done, and we checked it all the way. This quiz realizes me that in everything happened in the classroom especially if it is part of the methodologies should be noted and this should be concerned always.
The process of assessing the students in my CT was done, as was the process of checking them. The process of assessment that is done this day makes me realize that all the learnings of my subject in third year—the assessment of learning 1 and 2—are vital, especially that it is pivotal in teaching that teachers are capable of each process in the teaching and learning process. It was fun, with excitement and exhaustion. It was really my favorite thing to say "tired" in this blog, but it was actually true that even if it was a downfall, holistically I survived and surpassed this day with targeted goals and responsibilities. It was like a path of turbulence, yet "Hooray!" because I passed!
