FIELD STUDY 2 - DAY 7: Teaching; both a learning and an embodying process
November 15, 2022 is Day 7 in my Field Study 2. It was as insightful as the other days, but more fulfilling because my cooperating teacher (CT), ma'am Jenny Dumagan, assigned me the task of providing activities in sections 7 (Everlasting) and 8 (Beryl). Their topic and activity revolve around the conjugation of verbs, so they were given the task of conjugating the given subjects and verbs.
The principal, ma'am Emmalinda Ranalan, assigned them all to clean their areas in school in one period because the Davao de Oro Division Office would be visiting. From 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., the students of Ma’am Jenny in Grade 9-Beryl cleaned the areas near their school’s library. With these matters, ma’am will be busy this day since she was the master teacher, and she needs to be in their office. So, as her assistant, I am the one who supervised these students in cleaning, and honestly, it is not that easy to be authoritative outside of the classroom. As I know, having authority causes people to be driven to do what a leader wants them to do, and embracing such principles in getting them to do what I want is not easy, so what I did before the actions was gain my confidence to speak and communicate with them. As the time has passed, I am ready to go on to my second task, which is to give a task to grade 7—Everlasting
I'm relieved to see that they were already aware that I would be taking Ma'am Jenny's place as I walk into the 7-Everlasting classroom. They arranged their armchairs and kept their things up since it was their task for other subjects. Everything is in order, and the class is ready to begin. I request that they stand and recite the prayer and greetings. After that, I have informed them that they need to answer the task in just 30 minutes, and we will be checking their papers. Conjugation of verbs was the activity created by my CT. I am really happy since all of them know how to work with it and answer it without asking plenty of questions. This, I believe, was one of the remarkable things my cooperating teacher did: she made her students knowledgeable about the topics they had discussed.
Similarly, to what happened in Grade 7—Everlasting, the Beryl section of Grade 8 is now well-equipped to answer English basics such as verb conjugation. Their score reflects good performance and excellent question-answering abilities. As a result, ma'am Jenny possesses the characteristics of a good teacher, which I would describe as effective and efficient. Thus, in my future career, her prowess and manifestations in the classroom inspire me to be like her and keep all that she has shared with me. Because, honestly, skills and knowledge are combined; what is needed is your good heart to let constructivism be prioritized. As a result, it is both a learning and an embodying process.
